Materials & Care

Our Materials

Rinowood™ hardwood and EasyCare™ recycled HDPE are the foundation of our golf course furnishings. Both are engineered for longevity, weather resistance, and a premium look—from the range to the clubhouse.

Rinowood™

FSC-guideline hardwood for demanding environments

Rinowood™ is an extraordinary hardwood found throughout Central and South America. For over 50 years, it has been imported into the United States as a preferred material for marinas, boardwalks, decks, docks, and piers due to its uncanny longevity.

Remarkable for its tight grain and high natural oil content, Rinowood™ is among the densest commercially sold woods in the world. It naturally resists rot, decay, insect damage, salts, and caustic chemicals. It is significantly harder than cedar, substantially stiffer than hard maple, carries a fire rating similar to concrete and steel, and continues to store carbon even after harvesting. Left untreated, it weathers to a soft, silvery gray patina; with oil, it maintains its rich, dark color.

Our hardwoods are sourced using sustainable forestry practices monitored by local governments, the U.S. government, and third-party organizations, with positive social labor laws and responsible forest management at the forefront.

Wood Maintenance & Outdoor Care

To keep Rinowood™ looking its best, we recommend Messmer's UV Plus Oil for Hardwoods™ and Messmer's Wood Cleaner & Brightener™.

  • Ensure the wood is dry and free of dust and debris.
  • Apply one even coat of oil with a clean brush or lint-free rag.
  • The oil dries to a matte finish; reapply as needed based on climate and sun exposure.
  • In moderate climates, many courses oil 1–2 times per year; in harsh climates or full-sun locations, more frequent care may be preferred.
  • Joints, screws, hinges, and other hardware should be checked periodically and properly tightened as moisture and usage change over time.

Left to the elements, Rinowood™ will gracefully weather to a gray patina for a softer, more rustic look. Cracks and checking may occur and are considered a natural characteristic of outdoor wooden furnishings.

Refinishing & Application Steps

  1. Clean the surface of your Rinowood™ furnishings with a hose or power washer to remove dust and dirt.
  2. Dissolve the Messmer's Wood Cleaner & Brightener™ concentrate into a bucket of water according to instructions.
  3. Scrub the furniture thoroughly with the solution, allowing it to sit briefly so it can work into the wood.
  4. Rinse with a power washer. For heavily weathered pieces, use a higher setting or lightly sand with 220-grit sandpaper to remove the gray surface layer on smaller items.
  5. Allow the wood to dry completely. The cleansed wood will take on a rich, vibrant appearance and look remarkably refreshed.
  6. Apply a fresh coat of UV Plus oil to restore the "just-bought" look and provide ongoing protection.

EasyCare™

GreenCircle® Certified Tangent HDPE Lumber

EasyCare™ paneling is made from top-grade, extruded recycled plastics. It's designed for low-maintenance, durable, and superbly constructed indoor and outdoor furnishings—using many of the same construction methods that built our reputation in the high-end and private club market.

UV stabilizers are compounded into the material to protect color and resin integrity for years. Made up of hydrogen and carbon, HDPE is defined by a density of ≥ 0.941 g/cm³ and features a low degree of branching, providing strong intermolecular forces and excellent tensile strength.

EasyCare™ can also be paired with Rinowood™ framework to form our Black Forest™ line—offering additional aesthetic and material options for premium properties.

Full color selection is not available on all furnishings. We can recommend combinations that align with your brand and lead time requirements.

Outdoor Care

EasyCare™ is designed to be truly low-maintenance. UV stabilizers are built into the material, helping protect color and integrity for years without the need for painting or staining.

  • Routine cleaning can typically be done with mild soap and water.
  • Joints, screws, hinges, and other hardware should be checked periodically and properly tightened over time due to normal use.
  • In most environments, EasyCare™ requires no additional surface treatments to perform as intended outdoors.

Black Forest™ Hybrid

Black Forest™ brings together the warmth of Rinowood™ with the resilience of EasyCare™ paneling. The result is a hybrid construction ideal for properties that want the tactile feel of hardwood framing with the color stability and low maintenance of recycled HDPE panels.

You'll often see Black Forest™ specified on waste & recycling enclosures, bag stands, range stations, and other focal pieces where both performance and a premium, mixed-material aesthetic matter.

Our team can recommend when a full Rinowood™, full EasyCare™, or Black Forest™ hybrid build makes the most sense based on your climate, maintenance preferences, and design goals.
